The are a wide variety of approaches to treating and preventing Migraine and Cluster Headaches. It turns out that one of the most effective methods is also one of the least expensive and safest procedures available.
Medications that have a wide range of negative side effects that can be worse than the the problems being treated.
If there is a simple procedure that is enormously effective and safe why is it not used routinely?
These are excellent questions and therefore I have made it my mission to educate patients and doctors about Sphenopalatine Ganglion blocks.
I first learned about them in 1986 when a patient brought me a copy of the book “Miracles on Park Avenue” about Dr Milton Reder and his use of SPG Blocks for treating many types of chronic pain. He wanted me to find a doctor in Chicago who did this procedure. My initial reaction was that this just wasn’t possible. I then did some research and learned the procedure had been around since 1908 but just kind of got lost during the age of pharmaceuticals. Every patient and every doctor were always looking for the magic pill to cure a problem.
I looked for a physician who did the blocks in the Chicago area and could find a single one but a dentist I knew Dr Jack Haden in Kansas City did them and I went there to learn from Dr Haden. I have been doing them since 1986.
The SPG Blocks can sometimes be almost magical and other times are far less effective. when they are effective the are amazing, inexpensive and patients can self administer at home for about $1.00 per application.
There is a great deal of information about SPG Blocks on other posts on this site. Below are links to several patient testimonials.
